There is something slightly surreal about finally being able to say this:
Welcome to Hansheng’s Kitchen~!
I’m excited. I’m hyped. I’m nervous.
I’ve probably rearranged something on this website twelve times that nobody else will ever notice.
But mostly, I’m incredibly happy that this finally has a home.
Because while Hansheng’s Kitchen may be new, the story behind it is decades in the making.
Food was one of my first creative languages.
I've been cooking for as long as I can remember.
I grew up around food, restaurants, family kitchens, and the understanding that feeding people is about so much more than putting something edible on a plate. Food carries memory. Culture. Comfort. Curiosity. Care.
Eventually, that childhood obsession became formal training in culinary arts. I've worked in professional kitchens. I spent years in my family's restaurant. I've cooked at home, cooked for other people, developed recipes, experimented, failed spectacularly on occasion, learned, adjusted, and kept cooking.
And somewhere along the way, I became very particular about my tools.
Not because I think a kitchen needs to be filled with expensive things.
Quite the opposite.
I don't want seventeen gadgets when one good tool will do the job.
I want the spatula I instinctively reach for.
The tiny tongs that somehow get used for everything.
The pot that lives on the stove because putting it away would be pointless.
The bowl that's technically one of many bowls, but everyone in the house knows it's the good bowl.
The things that earn their place in a kitchen.
That idea became the foundation of Hansheng’s Kitchen.
Curated by a cook, not a catalog.
There are an overwhelming number of kitchen products in the world.
I don't want to sell all of them.
I don't even want to sell most of them.
Hansheng’s Kitchen exists because I wanted somewhere to collect the things I actually use, love, recommend, know and love, and trust, or believe deserve a place in a working kitchen.
Cookware. Tools. Tableware. Storage. Everyday essentials.
Some will be beautiful. Some will be ridiculously practical. The best ones will probably be both.
You'll also see my Taiwanese and Japanese influences woven throughout the shop~ not as an aesthetic pasted on top, but because they're part of how I cook, eat, serve food, and understand a kitchen.
This isn't about building the biggest kitchen catalog on the internet.
It's about building a good one.
Why now?
That's the funny part.
This idea isn't new~
For somewhere around 15 years, I've had pieces of this sitting in the background: recipes, food photography, ideas, notes, recommendations, an unfinished cookbook... and plans for what I might someday build.
And food itself has been part of my life for much longer than that.
There were other versions of the dream along the way. Other plans. Other possibilities. Life changed. I changed. The idea changed with me~ But it never actually went away.
Recently, while reorganizing my work and giving different parts of my creative life room to exist properly, I realized:
Food needed its own home.
And apparently, after thinking about something for more than a decade, you can build a website remarkably quickly once your brain finally decides, Oh. We're doing this NOW. 😂
So here we are.
More than a store.
I want Hansheng’s Kitchen to grow into more than a place where you buy a pan.
There will be recipes. There will be stories.
There will be techniques and ingredients and probably unnecessarily strong opinions about very specific kitchen tools.
There will be things I've learned from culinary school, restaurant kitchens, family kitchens, Taiwanese food, Japanese food, years of cooking, and years of simply paying attention to what makes cooking easier and more enjoyable.
And there will be food.
Lots of food.
Because recipes shouldn't spend their entire lives buried in a document somewhere on my computer.
They should be cooked. They should be changed. They should be shared.
They should get splattered with sauce and annotated in the margins and become somebody else's version of the dish.
That's the whole point.
So… welcome.
This feels strangely vulnerable to launch.
Not because food is new to me.
Because it isn't.
Maybe that's precisely why.
Hansheng’s Kitchen brings together something I've been carrying with me for most of my life, and I'm finally giving it the space to become whatever it's supposed to become.
I'm excited. I'm nervous. I'm ridiculously hyped.
And I cannot wait to see where this goes.
So pull up a chair. Put some rice on. Stay awhile.
Welcome to Hansheng’s Kitchen.
It took me long enough. 😂
